Happy Friday and January 31st!!!
I always like to say the Riddicks thrive in January and the summer, and I really think it's true. I'm not quite sure why because some of the other months in-between are such favorites too, but there's something just sweet and refreshing about the month of January, so in honor of the last day of the month, I thought I'd dedicate this little Friday Favorites to a January edition. A few of our favorite things we love about January. In no particular order...here are just a few favorites!
Our January Cleanse.
In 2018, I did a major cleanse from January-May that really helped get my health back on track, and the next year after we had been married a few months, Pierce decided to hop on board, and we did a similar "cleanse" from January-Valentine's Day. Fast forward many years later, and we've been doing it every January, and it is so good and refreshing for us. It's evolved and changed, but now we mainly just say no to grains and sugars, and last year we started being really intentional about adding in lots of fruits and vegetables, and it's a game changer for us.
Colder weather.
January doesn't always bring snow in Nashville, but it does almost always bring freezing cold weather and temperatures, and there's something a little sweet about turning the fire on, bundling up, and even breathing in some of that cold winter air. I can't say we would love it all year, but we sure do like the colder weather during the first month of the year!
Slower days.
There's something about January that just feels like it's a good time to slow down and enjoy the simple moments of each day a little more. I'm honestly not on social media much, but someone sent me these little pictures this month, and I loved the sweet and simple message. (This specific one is from @lauramdoug and the beautiful art is by @lorepemberton.) January has been so good for us to slow down and remember the Lord's beautiful gifts and blessings in the mundane and simple. You can read a little bit more about my "more time and more grace" mindset here as well.
A clean home.
I use the word "clean" relative here, because our floors may not always be vacuumed or furniture dusted (and there are most likely toys and markers out at all times), but there is something so refreshing about having "the holidays" put away. As much as I love, love, love our cozy Christmas decorations, it's always just refreshing to have things clean and peaceful for a little bit.
Cozy nights.
We love a fire and a cozy blanket. Add in a good book and a cup of tea, and you have our dream night in the making. We've been trying to make the most of the colder, cozy nights in-between bed times and baths and all the crazy of two littles. ☺️
Fresh starts.
I know this is a big one and maybe the "most obvious" for a lot, but to me, it really does just represent a little bit of a clean and fresh reset. Not in a huge way, but even in the little things. Two years ago, I read "The Lazy Genius Way" and loved her perspective on starting small... So whether rhythms and routines or budgeting or meal prepping, January just feels like such a good time to start small and take a few small steps toward a small goal. You can read about a few of mine here.
And lastly, family time.
There's something about January that always leads us to a bit more family time. Maybe it's coming off the rush of traveling and holidays, but usually our nights are a little more free and with it getting dark so early, we're usually inside when Pierce gets home from work, so it just seems to lead to lots of play time and family time, which I know we're all grateful for.
And those are just a few of our favorites this January... There are lots more of course, but those are the first few that come to mind. And as much as we love the first month of the year, we are always ready for the sweet February fun and pinks and reds that are just around the corner!! I'd love to hear your January faves as well and hope your month has been filled with lots of sweet simple joys and blessings! Thanks Erika and Andrea for the fun blog link-up too!! I'll plan to be back here for Frame the Moment next Thursday and then back the week after that!! Hope everyone has the very best weekend!!!
