Happy Wednesday, friends!! I thought today I would jump on board the Let's Look blog link-up and share just a few ways our parents have influenced us over here... 😉 We always laugh at those "I'm turning into my parents commercials," and really, we have amazing parents, but the older we get, the longer our list gets of things we have picked up over the years... Here are just a few that come to mind!
1. Health conscious
This one is definitely a big one. My parents have always had a big heart and desire for all things health, and throughout the years, it has definitely become a part of my life too in a big way. From the food we eat to the ingredients we look for, to the laundry detergent and soap we use, it's basically like we have parallel homes haha
Well, everyone who knows my mom knows her love for hot tea. She is always drinking a cup, and always making it in the most amazing way. She just seems to have this "touch" with tea, where it's perfectly hot, perfectly sweet, perfectly steeped, all in the perfect cup. And while I can't say that I now have this "touch," I am however, always drinking a cup. From "pink tea" when I was growing up, to "earl grey" in the mornings throughout all of my college and teaching days, to "dandelion tea" most mornings now, it's definitely a generational love that's been passed down. And with Jane currently loving tea, I sure hope it's one that continues!!
3. Checking the weather.
My dad was a pilot for my whole life, so checking the weather for him was truly almost part of his job. He was always paying attention to the forecast, watching the weather channel, always knew the weather for the foreseeable future (I am also almost positive it is the Weather Channel on in the background of this picture hahahah). Well, fast forward 30 years, and Pierce continually laughs at how much I check my weather channel app. I tell him I truly can't help it. It is engrained in me to know the weather 😂 Dad will still send a text about a big weather event several days out, and Pierce again always laughs, as I've already been prepping him for it hahaha What can I say, I am my father's daughter haha
4. Linen sheets.
My parents switched to linen sheets several years ago and would always rave about them. Well, one year, they bought us a set for Christmas and now, I'm not sure we could ever go back haha they are so soft, so natural, so light and airy, but cozy. They are a favorite, and we couldn't be more on board haha
5. Mini every day.
Along with their hot tea every morning, my parents love their New York Times games in the morning. We have watched them do these for years, and Pierce and I finally jumped on board and although we don't do them all, we always try to do the Mini Crossword. Our tagline is, "We always have time for the mini," because truly, we say if we can't make time for a 30 second tradition we are doing something wrong hahaha We usually do it before bed, and we'll record our time for a semi daily competition with my parents to see who does it in a faster time. And I've never felt more like them. Hahaha
6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Well, again, engrained in me since I was young haha My parents grew up in Tampa and even though I didn't, sometimes I feel like I did haha
And winning the Super Bowl a few years ago was the BIGGEST highlight!! A forever fan for sure.
7. Wrapping Gifts.
For years I have watched my mom wrap a gazillion gifts at Christmastime, and Pierce will say I now am her when I wrap gift hahaha And I love it.
The list continues with a love for the beach, only sandals in the summer, a shared-love with my dad of collecting all the trash cans in the house for garbage day, and anything and everything creative from my mom.
When I asked Pierce about his parents, we both laughed and thought it pretty much sums it up by he is now working with his dad. Pierce will ever so often "drive by" a site on the way to something, and we laugh because he says he remembers that SO many times as a kid. Case in point. Hahaha
