Ten Things I Love About Motherhood

Happy Tuesday, my friends!!! In honor of Valentine's Day and the month of February, I thought I would continue one of my favorite little posts - Ten Things I Love About Motherhood. I started this back in 2023 when I was just ten months into this little journey with sweet Jane. I remembering just feeling a pressing on my heart to lean into the good.
In this season of having young littles, there can sometimes be a lot of "focus" on the hard, (which I know can be used to point to Jesus and our need for Him so clearly), but I also just feel like this season of motherhood is a gift from the Lord, and I remember wanting to steward and press into that blessing and gift in the best ways I could.

So, I wrote down ten things I was thankful for and that I loved about motherhood as a simple start, and I've done it every February since. It's not the only way I celebrate the sweetness of motherhood, but I've learned that perspective is so much of how we see and experience things, and in a season like this one, I always want to try to see and deeply experience the good and the fun and the joy even and especially in the midst of the tiring and challenging. I hope maybe it will inspire you to find the good in the season you may be walking through right now as well, as I know sometimes a simple change in perspective can be such a blessing. So, without further-ado here are ten things I love about motherhood!

1. I love watching Jane and Andy become friends.

This has been such a treat of motherhood in this season. Jane has been loving on Andy since the literal day he was born (you can see a favorite video of ours here), but in the recent days, they've actually been becoming friends, and goodness, it has been sweet to watch!

2. I love hearing Andy say, “Mama.”

Goodness, Andy is our quieter little one and maybe it's the fact that he has been slower to talk than Jane was or the fact that we don’t hear his voice much so when we do it’s all the sweeter, but I love hearing him say Mama. And honestly all little words he says right now too. His little voice has been worth the wait!

3. I love hearing Jane say, “I love you, and you’re my friend," and "You're the best Mommy in the world."

These are her current favorite quotes when she is feeling all the love, and I love each one of them so very much.

4. I love doing verses at night together as a family.

During Christmas this year, we had gotten in a habit of doing our Jesse Tree every night after dinner with honey or some type of little treat to remember that God's Word is sweeter than honey and it became something the kids SO looked forward to. So, when January came, I broke out our Truth78 verses, and we started doing one each night. Making up a little song or jingle or rhythm to help memorize, and it has truly been a very favorite part of our days ever since. There is something so sweet and special hearing Scripture being hummed or sung while they're playing or drawing or not even thinking about it. And it's been especially sweet seeing Andy know the verses with the hand movements too. A special part of this season for sure.

5. I love being their “home base.”

When we’re out or at a friends’ house or playing, I love being their “person” that they know they can come to when they fall or get hurt or just need a quick little touch point before they go back to playing. I've witnessed it so many times, and it always just makes me smile.

6. I love watching Andy be a "boy."

I sure have loved and still do love all of the pink and bows and dolls and and babies that we have around the house, but there has been something fun about watching and enjoying Andy just be a boy. Mud, dirt, balls, climbing, bugs, you name it he's been into it in these almost 20 months of his little life hahaha the other day, Jane and I found a little bug on the floor, and Andy was VERY into it, so much so that when I got a little piece of tissue, he bent down and got the bug for us and took it outside. I mean, Jane and I just couldn't believe he had "saved" us 😉 hahaha

7. I love watching Jane be a "little Mommy."

And on the flip side, I just couldn't love watching Jane be a "little mommy" more than I do. She is incredibly sweet and good with her babies and has been counting down till her 4th birthday where she is *really* hoping for a baby with "hair" and "shoes" 😉 We gave her a little baby doll for her 1st birthday, and she is still just as in love with it today as she was on that very first birthday. She feeds her, changes her, cuddles with her every night, takes her just about everywhere we go. I have asked her if it might be hard to take care of both if she gets a new baby for her birthday, and she assures me, "I can be a mommy to two kids don't worry."

8. I love praying for them and with them.

There is something about having littles under our roof that has made us pray all the more. Big things, little things, at night, in the middle of the night, in the middle of the day, in the car... I have learned that it is always better to pray for something first and foremost than to try to "change" it on my own accord. And I love very much praying with them as well. Seeing Andy's little hands folded just about melts my heart every time. And hearing little Jane's voice say the sweetest and purest of thoughts does the same.

9. I love the laughter in our home.

It can be the hardest day or the longest afternoon, but somehow hearing little giggles seems to wipe the slate clean. Watching their little senses of humor start to develop too has been the biggest little treat.

10. I love doing it all with Pierce.

Being a mom is made so much better by being a dad with Pierce. There's something about doing this whole thing together that just makes it all the more fun and life-giving.

And there's just the first 10 things that came to my mind when I thought about my favorite things about motherhood right now.. You can find 2023 here, 2024 here, and 2025 here and a little look into my heart after having two here as well.

I'm studying 1 Samuel right now with my Warren Wiersbe commentary that I love, and in talking about Hannah dedicating Samuel at the beginning of the book, Wiersbe wrote, "Never underestimate the power of the home or the power of a little child dedicated to God." It touched me as he was talking about Hannah and her role and prayer as a mom and how it impacted the entire nation of Israel as she was walking faithfully, praying for her son, and dedicating his life to the Lord. What a special role we play in these littles' lives!!
Here's to enjoying this season of motherhood and all that the Lord is teaching in and through it!! Thanks for following along in this little journey!!

I'll plan on seeing you back here tomorrow!
Sending lots of love!
