Let's Look - What's In Our Grocery Carts

Happy Wednesday!!! Today I thought I would hop on to the Let's Look blog link-up about our grocery carts.
Oh, grocery stores. I can't even remember what we did before we had Jane, I think we would grab groceries at some point after work, and it was somewhat of a non-event. But then add a little one, and now, every grocery store run feels like an actual event haha And most times one we welcome because Jane loves it SO much and always has... So today I just brainstormed ten things that are almost always in our carts. This obviously varies depending on what we're having for dinner, what grocery store we're in, what time of year it is, etc, but here are a few things that you can almost always find in our cart!!

1. Jane.
Hahaha but really, it is rare when we are at the grocery store without her. If one of us is running over, we almost always take this little extrovert so she can say hi to her "friends," have the thrill of shopping for a minute, and grab a sticker for the road.
She LOVES it!!

2. Fruit.
Oh my, this is maybe I would say the majority of what is in our carts honestly. Apples, strawberries, bananas, raspberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, kiwi, pineapple, you name it, it's probably in our carts and therefore in our fridge, but we love it!!

3. Vegetables.
We've been trying to add more and more of this into our meals, so we almost always have spinach on hand for omelettes and smoothies, lettuce for salads, peppers and onions as a staple for so many meals, tomatoes for a plethora of things, meals and appetizers, avocados for just about everything we do, and we love when we finally get a Ratatouille morning in with eggplant, squash, zucchini, and red peppers.

4. Chicken.

We just almost always add a pack of our favorite chicken when we're at the store. Even if we're just grabbing something quick, this is usually an add-on most days.

5. Ground beef.

Definitely our second most-used meat. One of our stores has our favorite grass-fed beef, and especially when it's on sale, we love grabbing this for so many of our meals!

6. Kombucha.
I honestly could not tell you if I have ever bought a soda at a grocery store, but put a on-sale kombucha in front of me, and I am sucker! This is one of mine and Pierce's favorite snack/drink for an afternoon pick-me-up, and we love when these are in our carts. We've tried lots of different brands, but my current fave is GT's Strawberry Serenity - so yummy!!

Side note - we used to grab Spindrift ALL the time, for dinner, for snack, for people coming over, but after I got Pierce a SodaStream for Christmas, it has changed our world (and our budget!) and we hardly ever buy sparkling water at the store now. Fresh homemade is just SO good!!!

7. "Bars."

This is what almost every snack is now lovingly referred to in our house hahaha it can be an actual granola bar or a brownie that Pierce is eating, and Jane will call it a "bar." But these end up in our cart quite often. From Bob Red Mills oatmeal bars to Bobo bars, Lara bars, Scout bars, Cerebelly bars, you name it, we try to keep at least one option on hand to grab for a quick to-go snack for Jane.

8. Smoothie Items.
Frozen fruit and almond milk I would say end up in our cart more often than not. We are smoothie people, and we try to always keep these stocked. We recently grabbed a Costco membership and have been loving adding their frozen fruit to our carts and freezer!

9. Eggs.
Goodness, we use these all the time, whether for omelettes or baking, these are definitely a staple in our house, and we love when we can find our favorite brands on sale for the week.

10. Chocolate Chips.

And lastly, we just love Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips, and we use them in so many things. From our smoothie bowls to greek yogurt snacks to our banana ponderosa cake and almond flour pancakes, these are definitely what you would call a staple in our house and if we ever come across them on-sale, we definitely love to stock-up!

A close tie for top 10 would definitely be cheese as well. And possibly nuts. From Goat Cheese to Mozerellla to Pepperjack and shredded Mexican cheese, we love adding this to a lot of our meals and snacks throughout the week!! String cheese has now become a favorite snack for Jane too. And nuts we love to add to so many things from pancakes to desserts and homemade trail-mix.
I snapped this during the snow storm in January when we were out of a whole lot and had one morning to run to the grocery store before the second snow came. And I *think* almost all of our top ten were in this run!! Siete Tortilla Chips maybe should have also been tied for top 10! We love those and use them all the time too!!

And really, there you have it. Top 10 (plus a few) things that you can almost always find in our carts if we are at the grocery store!!
But really, this little one really is my favorite part of grocery shopping these days!!
Soaking up these days and errands with this little one for sure! I would LOVE to hear what are the staples in your cart as well!! It's always fun to get some new ideas for meals, snacks and food!! Thanks Shay and Erika for the fun blog link-up today!

I'll plan on seeing you back here tomorrow!!
Sending lots of love and happy Grocery Shopping!!

  1. We are the same with fruits and veggies! I'd say nearly 95% of our cart is fresh fruits and veggies.
