Hi there!!! Happy, happy Wednesday!!! Today I thought it would be fun to start another little series on here. A few of the Riddicks' Favorite Things. From hot tea to toys, traveling, cooking, and all the life that comes with a family of four, I thought it would be fun to share a few of our favorites of things! I thought today would be a fun kick-off with a few of our favorite GAMES...
We are a game-loving family, and Pierce and I love playing classics as well as finding new ones, so I hope you'll send us your favorites too if they're not on this little list! Here are just a few of our favorites around here right now...
We could seriously sit around this table and play games every night...
And in many seasons, we have hahaha
Having others around the table is just as sweet though!!
I'm not sure there are more things I love more than sitting around a table with hot tea and snacks and catching up while playing a game. There's just something about it that makes it feel like the very best... So, without furtherado, here are a few of ours favorites to play sitting around that table!!
The first is Sequence. As you can probably tell from those pictures, we were on a serious Sequence kick at one point hahaha It's just such an easy and classic game that's perfect for two, perfect for groups, has a little strategy, a little luck and just one of those "talking while you play" kind of games that we really love. It's a favorite of ours for sure!!
Rack-o is another one that is a classic around here. It's simple, it's fun, it's not too long, you can talk, catch up on the day, it's perfect for two, great for three or four and just a perfect little game to have around!!
Hues and Cues is another great group game. We originally bought this for my mom because she is a painter and a quilter and loves color. It's a fun one and the board is just beautiful as well. We've realized the colors are different in different lighting, but it makes it all the more fun and unique with so many different shades and gradients.
Codenames is one we love to play with another couple or small group of friends. It's simple and unique and anytime Pierce and I are on the same team, we always leave the game talking about our communication style hahaha
Goodness, Chameleon was definitely a favorite in my family for a while...but depending on who you are can give you a good bit of stress if you are the Chameleon hahaha It's a fun group game and one where you don't have to "lie," which we can appreciate - you just have to blend it and act like you know exactly what is going on even if you're not quite sure haha

Rummikub is another classic, similar to Rack-O. It's easy and simple and perfect for two players or three or four. Pierce and I were definitely on a Rummikub kick for a while at night as well. It's a perfect "catch up on the day" game for sure!
Pierce's brother and sister-in-law gifted this to us for our birthdays one year, and we were so excited to finally have the game that she had talked about so much. It's a fun one and one that I want to play more so I can learn a little more of the strategy. It feels like a game you will remember playing on "family game night" for sure.
This one is just a classic and one that Pierce and I have been playing since we met at camp all those years ago. It's a perfect quick, easy, fun game that takes absolutely no time to set up and is perfect to play with friends too!
Blokus is a fun and unique one that I had growing up, brought to my 5th grade classroom for my math students to play, and still love playing with Pierce or friends. It's just the right amount of strategy for it to still be a "talking" kind of game, but it's still unique enough that it's different every time you play.
This is a new-to-us game as of a few months ago, and we have loved it!! It's a small little card game that I toss in my purse or carry-on now on all of our family trips. It's simple, easy to explain, easy to play, and a fun unique premise that we've really enjoyed. If you love having little card games on hand, this one is a good one!!!
This is another great card game that is kind of like Rook, where you bid on how many "tricks" you think you will win. Pierce and I LOVE Spades, Hearts, 500, etc, so this one was right up our alley, but we have played with friends who are new to that type of card game, and this is a perfect game to introduce those concepts too. It's easy to understand and fun to play!!
Quirkle is such a unique game. It's kind of like Blokus in that it's different every time you play, which makes it fun. I played this all growing up, and it's an easy partner or group game that's fun, simple, and makes the table look so pretty as you play!!
Well, we have an older version that I found on Ebay because I wanted it to have the same feel as the one I had growing up 😂, but let me tell you, Pictionary might just take the cake for Pierce's and my favorite game. We love playing this with friends and other couples. We always say that it is such a great game for communication, and we always learn so much about the other person while we play. This is a favorite in both of our families, so it gets played quite often, especially around the holidays, and Pierce and I always joke that it's similar to "Dash" at the end of The Incredibles... We want to have fun, but we also want others to have fun too, so it's a bit of a stop and go with our guessing at times 😉😂, but we love it so much and would play all the time if we could!!!

STATE-TO-STATE
And because we are talking about favorite games, this one just HAD to make the list. This has been a favorite game of mine since I can remember, and if you ask my parents, they will say they played this with me 7,834,985 times growing up... BUT I learned all of my states and capitals through playing this game and if you ask me today, I can still tell you every "color" and "picture" of any state. It's just the very best game, so fun and easy to play, and perfect for learning states. I snagged a one off of Ebay recently because I'm counting down till when Jane can play, but if you ever come across one, I can't recommend it enough!!
Ok, and speaking of Jane, this game is a favorite right now of hers. It's so simple, so easy to play, and Pierce was skeptical when I told him she could play at age 2, but we got it for her for Christmas, and it was a hit!!
Ok, so those are just a few of the games that come to mind as a few favorites for us... Last year, I decided that I was going to start putting games on my "Secret Santa" lists for Christmas because we do them with Pierce's siblings and I never knew what to put on my lists... So, on my list currently is Blank Slate, iTo, and Azul. Do you know any of those?! Which others should I add?! Do you have favorites?! We love finding new ones, so so happy to hear!!
And I couldn't let a games post go by without mentioning my very favorite cards too. I love making (and gifting) little decks of cards from Zazzle.com. You just upload a picture and for less than $10, you have the best little gift to give (that keeps on giving!) "Three by three" is a favorite game of ours, and I'm pretty sure it's similar to Golf Play Nine, which we've heard fun things about too!

And, speaking of cards, my family would never let me hear the end of it if I didn't mention "Nertz." It is a well-loved family favorite of ours, and the best little fast-paced card game. If you're looking for a new one and have never heard of it, I highly recommend it. Everyone just needs their own unique deck of cards, and you need at least 3-4 players. You can find some simple directions here. It's a fan-favorite for sure!!
And there you have it...just a few of the Riddicks' Favorite Things - Games Edition.
Games will forever be a favorite over here!!! Ok, thanks as always for following along, and I hope you found at least one new game maybe to add to your list! I always think it's so fun to hear what others love playing. And I'll be back soon too with more in the series. If there's a topic you would love, please let me know, and I'd be so happy to add it too!!
I'll plan to see you back here tomorrow!!
Sending lots of love and here's to favorite things and playing games!!
