Monday Thoughts...Starting Small.

Happy Monday!! I thought it'd be fun to just share a few thoughts on here about something fun that I'm learning/doing these days...
After finishing The Lazy Genius Way, it's been fun to put into practice some of her tips and principles. None of them are "new" or life-changing in and of themselves, but her writing and process made sense to me and encouraged me, especially in discovering what's important and what matters the most in our home, family, and rhythms.
One of her principles that I've loved is "Start Small," which has been so helpful to not feel like I have to tackle it all at once.

About half way through the month, I decided one of my "Start Smalls" was going to be just deciding on one item each day (I know...very small 😂) in one of the places in our house I've been wanting to clean out, and as crazy as it sounds, it really has made a big difference.

This simple mindset shift has really helped to make this goal feel much more manageable and doable. With the "J" in me (thank you Myers-Briggs), I love a "completed" task, and that's why sometimes I think going through something or organizing/decluttering a specific space can feel overwhelming to me. It's hard to always have an "end" in sight or to ever feel like I have enough time to truly complete the task in its entirety.

I think that's also why our new laundry routine has been such a game changer to me. Laundry always felt like a daunting task... I used to try to do it ALL on Saturdays. I would start in the morning and just try to do as many loads as possible. But inevitably, I would miss things, a kitchen towel would become dirty at 8pm right after I had finished the towel load, there would be socks from the day that would just go right back into the basket that was just emptied, etc and it was just never ending and never "done" in my mind...
But with a mindset shift of my new goal being one load a day instead of ALL the laundry done at once, it really changed how I started viewing it and helped me feel like each day I completed my task and laundry was actually being done way more efficiently. Now, there are definitely days that I feel like laundry is caught up and I skip here and there, but the general goal is one a day and it's been so helpful.

So I made a list of my phone of all the places that I would love a fresh start or a "new organization system" or simply just places that I would love to clean out. And I have just been choosing one item each day. Keep and find a place...donate or give to someone who I know would love it. And honestly, most days, I have done way more than one. But after I make that decision (or decisions), I feel like I've completed it for the day without being completely overwhelmed and still moving in the right direction!
The other day, Jane was napping, and I probably did upwards of 60 things in our "junk drawer" 😂 But...it was a place that for multiple days in a row, I just did one or two things, and then the momentum felt like it was going in the right direction and here we are today...

I'd love to keep you updated on my other areas as hopefully that "one thing" in starting small leads to a few more simple and organized places in our home.

And there you have it...just a few little thoughts for your Monday incase you're needing some encouragement on finding something that matters to you and "starting small." ☺️ I'd love to be cheering you on in whatever that may look like, whether a small household habit, a new hobby, or just something you've been wanting to do for fun and need some encouragement to just start small...and I'll be keeping you updated on mine over here as well...

Here's to a great and small Monday!
I'll see you back here tomorrow!
Blessings,
Tabitha
