Let's Look - Costumes

Happy Wednesday!! I hope you guys are enjoying your week and this fall season!!
Today, I thought it would be fun to join one of my favorite link-ups, Let's Look... But today, we are looking at choosing costumes...
And this post is brought to you by three year old Tabitha (also starring eight year old brother Lukas)...
And three year old Pierce (also starring the REAL Batman...otherwise known as "Pierce's Dad" come to find out years later...😉) hahaha

Obviously, we haven't had Jane around for any Halloweens yet, so I knew I had to find these two pictures to share...

For that sweet little bunny costume, my mom made every inch...and pretty much was the story every Halloween before and after... She is SO crafty and SO creative... I'm talking from a bumblebee to Molly McIntire (complete with braids, glasses, and a school uniform and red bows), to a hippie, a cowgirl, a bunny, Laura Ingalls, our Dad's mini-me Airforce Airman...the list goes on... She did it ALL, and looking back it's so impressive and fun, especially considering there was definitely no Pinterest or Google around...

In high school and college, whenever I had to dress-up, I always tried to follow in her footsteps... Whether it was a spirit day or a function, something deep down in me always kept me from going to Amazon or the costume store to purchase something...
This is circa 2010 when a group in my junior class tried to take our chances at winning "Character Day..."
I was out late the night before at the Goodwill thinking I had won the lottery when I found a wedding dress slip and purple wrapping paper to wrap our yard candy cane up for a cane 😂
Or at Hobby Lobby buying paint and t-shirts trying to turn us into something sports related 😂
Or thrifting trying to recreate how people dressed in the '80s hahaha

All of this is making it seem like I really love costumes, but the reality is...I actually don't LOVE dressing up...usually the days before are filled with stress thinking of what I'm going to do for that particular day...
And then I picked a career where the dress-up days really didn't end....hahaha My mom loved this picture and immediately sent me this picture...
23 years earlier...and not much has changed 😂

So needlesstosay, when Pierce and I were dating and someone invited us to come to a Halloween get-together, I found myself back at the store buying t-shirts and paints and we become Salt and Pepper...
Circa 2017...why do we look like babies here?! Hahaha
And so, pretty much every year since we've gotten married, we throw on our little salt and pepper shirts and pass out "full-size candy bars" ...as Pierce wouldn't have it any other way hahaha

So this year, with Jane in the mix, I'm not quite sure what it will look like... I want to let myself buy a little pumpkin or ladybug outfit, but we've also thought about turning her into a little Paprika or a spice of some sort as she passes out candy with us 😂 The verdict is still out... And I know there is absolutely no pressure to create, but sometimes it might just be more fun... And sometimes, I'm sure I will be clicking "Buy Now" with upgraded shipping if possible hhaha

How do you choose costumes?! I'm sure we'll have many many Fall Festivals, Trick-or-Treating, and Dress-up days in our future, so I'll be over here bracing myself and maybe stocking up on felt and t-shirts and also keeping our Prime membership up-to-date and browsing my favorite Etsy stores all simultaneously hahaha

Can't wait to hear all of your tricks of the trade!! Thanks Shay and Erika for a fun blog link-up!

And speaking of costumes and cowgirls...I'll be back tomorrow with a little DIY Hobby Horse post!!
Thanks for reading!!

  2. We LOVE costumes, especially with a little girl! My girl is a big girlie girl - we have been Jessie (toy story), Elsa, Raya, and this year a Princess! BUT, year round we have a wall of all the costumes in the playroom for her imagination to play! We typically buy clearance Halloween costumes at the end of the year for her to play with, or we buy princess nightgowns that can double as costumes. Also, this sounds really odd - but Cracker Barrel has GREAT costumes for little girls! and for well priced! She got 2 for Christmas last year and I grabbed her a Cruella tutu/dress this year from there! Can't wait to see what you decide for Jane!
