The Riddick Home - Our Room

Happy Thursday and welcome to another day in the Riddick Home! I thought it would be fun to give an update on another room in our house...this time, our room. This is a fun one and has been a special place for me to get to put together...
Now, if you followed my Riddick Home instagram, there are a lot of things that have stayed the same the last year or two, but there are also a few that changed too! For one, we got a new bed-frame! This was our very first purchase with my tutoring money that I had been saving. We were so excited to get this, and it has been such a great game changer for us!
This was a few days after we got back from our honeymoon...Pierce was in grad school and had class every night from 6-9, so that meant I got to play around on all things home for most nights during the week and this was one of my first projects. I knew I wanted to get our room done quickly, and we didn't have that much to go with, but I hung a sign over our bed that a sweet friend had made us for our wedding, hung some curtains I had from a previous space, and bought two new lamps. I put up our little side table that was a gift from our wedding and snapped this picture that night. It's still such a sweet picture to look back on.
And almost three years later, we still pretty much have that same layout, just now with a new bed-frame! We recently found a new rug, which we had been looking for! And we put the second chair (the other is in our study) in the corner... It's a little bit of a tight fit, but it's so worth it because we love sitting there for mornings or taking off shoes/putting them on, etc.
Now, this room is far from perfect and there are many projects on the "to-do list," but we've made it a place we love to be and it does oftentimes feel like a little safe haven for us. So grab a cup of tea and enjoy this little Riddick Home tour! I tried to include the story for most things because I love knowing when I walk in there are reminders of the Lord's faithfulness and sweetness to us!
We just love, love, love these little side tables. I randomly put one on our wedding registry and was so surprised and thrilled when I opened it as a gift after our wedding. I have put this little thing so many places in the house, but when I brought it upstairs, I loved it beside our bed. So I used our gift cards and bought a second for the other side.
We really have loved these little guys. They've fit perfectly for the space that we have.
This dresser was a project my mom helped me with before I moved into my first apartment in Texas.
We found it at an old thrift store in Louisville and it was a great deal...so my mom and sister helped me bring it home and it was a family effort to redo it...
We painted and sanded....
And even made the top drawers have knobs instead of handles...
And we love having this little piece of history in our room! Thanks Mom, Audrey, and Elizabeth for helping make it happen!
This mirror was a fun new addition from Tuesday Morning... We might hang this on the wall soon, but for now, it's been a great full-length mirror for us.
We love these built-in bookshelves. As much as I LOVE to walk down the halls of HomeGoods and TJ Maxx, I try to keep our bookshelves decorated with things as meaningful to us and remind us of the Lord's goodness. On this bookshelf you'll find...a date night painting, airport flowers when we were dating long distance, our engagement ebenezer, a shell we found in the ocean St. Kitts on our honeymoon and a little watercolored cottage of where we stayed, a Miss Whitacre wood carving Pierce made me when we first started dating, and two of our wedding Mr. and Mrs. plaques. I threw all of this up on these shelves as I was moving in/getting settled, and honestly it's one thing in our house that hasn't really changed... I just really love the stories behind the pieces and one day soon, I'm sure I'll add more or change them out, but for now, it's the perfect bookshelf to help us remember so many of the Lord's sweet blessings!

This little picture and wooden step stool are such a fun and sweet memory for us! Pierce made this with my dad one weekend before we proposed. They made it, stained it, and Pierce used a wood carver to write the date in it. It was such a surprise and something we still love to treasure!!
The painting on the top is from a date night that Pierce planned when I had just recently moved to Nashville. He set up the back patio of the little house I lived in with Italy lights, our little side table, and two outdoor chairs and had gotten two canvases and easels for us to paint. It was such a sweet night...
I had seen a canvas at Magnolia Market earlier that year that said, "It's just the nearness of you..." very simple painted toward the bottom right and remember taking a picture and saying something like, "That's sweet!!" And then to my surprise, at the end of the date, he had painted me the very same canvas. It was so sweet, and I love that we still get to have this canvas in our room with that sweet little saying. The one I ended up making Pierce still hangs in his studio!
We also have another little closet on the other side of the room, with a little Riddick Family Matthew 6:33 Verse over it. We love that it's one of the first things we see in the morning!
And that about does it for this little room's tour... It's not perfect, but it's one of our favorite places to be. I'm here to say that on a tight budget, you can make a space feel like it’s yours...it's one of my favorite pastimes to create spaces that are meaningful, yet simple and cozy and feel like home. Send me pictures and ideas of your spaces, and I'd love to help on any project or room you are working on in your home!!

Thanks for following along in this little Riddick Home journey. It's been so fun to hear from you and thank you for all of your love and encouragement. I'll see you back here in the morning for Friday Favorites!

Love y'all!
