Let's Look...Organizing Your Closet.

Happy Wednesday!! Here we are again with another Let's Look...Pierce in particular loves these posts because he says they are always about organizing/cleaning 😂 And...for the ones I've done, he's not too far off.
Last summer, I joined the link-up with Bathroom Organization, and this year, we've talked about Eating Healthy and Everyday Cleaning... Today...it's all about Organizing Your Closet...sigh... 😂

I mainly decided to jump on today's link-up because I thought maybe I could get some good ideas from other people's posts and comments...because honestly, it's not my strong suit.

Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE a good organized closet, but for some reason, it doesn't always stick, and it can be hard for me to find a good system that is practical for everyday use and can stay tidy.

It's even one of my September goals this month - go through and organize our closets....goodness. Maybe I DO need a whole post about this hahaha

I thought, as humbling as it may be, I'd go through some good before and afters from the past several months and leave you with the state of our closet on my current to-do list...

So, without further-ado, here are some of the Riddick's unorganized/"organized" closets...
I thought I'd start with our little coat closet downstairs...I'm not even sure how it even got to this point...there were literally fall scarecrows stuffed in this closet 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 But earlier this year, I did a big purge, and got it down to this...
And honestly, with the addition of Jane's stroller and a few bigger play toys that we keep in here now, it's stayed relatively organized, which is surprising but has also made it a blessing for our downstairs!!
But let's journey upstairs to our linen closet in the hallway....yikes. Not really even sure what to say about this one hahaha
But I had taken some time one weekend and folded, straightened, and took some inventory of what we had and could part with... But then, fast forward a few months later, Jane is five days old and our upstairs shower started leaking through our living room ceiling...so out came all of these towels and sheets so that the plumber could cut a whole in the back of the closet to get to the pipes.... Maybe I just don't have good luck with these things hahaha but this closet could honestly probably use another refresh soon... Any good tips for organizing a linen closet?!
Now on to the dreaded "guest room closet" that became Jane's closet when we turned it into the nursery... This is the closet that kind of became the "catch-all" when we got married...and it's embarrassing that we even had this much stuff to be stuffed in a closet...
But, believe it or not, more got put in here as we went through Pierce's studio and uprooted our house to change things around for Jane's nursery... I almost wish I had not taken this picture when I pulled everything out of here....sigh...it was bad.
But for the sake of a closet organization post, I thought it might be necessary to show you the progress...we got it down to this, which was much better, but still not very practical...
So, with about a week until Jane's due date, I convinced Pierce to help me put up new shelving to make her closet a little more practical with storage...we made a few trips to The Container Store and ended up loving their Elfa shelves.
We could mix and match and make it what we needed for the time...I highly recommend their little shelving company. We love how it made her closet a little more practical, and even though I'm still working on our system for all of her clothes that she's outgrowing/hand-me-downs/and new clothes, we still love her little closet.
And lastly, that brings us to our closet upstairs...these shelves were already here when we moved in, and we've come to love all of this storage... I snapped this last fall as a "before" for a very much needed organization....
And a few days later, we ended up here. Which served us well through the following months...
But, add many different seasons, a pregnancy, and a career shift, and you are left with this.....sigh. That's a current picture as much as I wish it wasn't hahaha So...that is where I'll be...over here sifting through these shelves, deciding what to keep, what to donate, and how is best to keep it organized...

What tips do you have?! How do you store seasonal clothes/change out for different weather and seasons? How often do you go through your clothes? Etc.... If you have ANY tips on organizing a closet, I will gladly take them.... I'm all about updating our spaces to be more practical and easy to live in, so I can't wait to go read some more posts about how others organize their closets...

Thanks for making it to the end of the tour de Riddick closets over here... and thanks for the accountability now for me to go finish my September goal hahaha I'll be sure to keep you posted!!!

Thanks Shay and Erika for the fun blog link-up! With a little more inspiration this morning, I'm off to go sort through these clothes, but I'll see you back here tomorrow!!!

Blessings,
❤️Tab

  1. I feel like the game changing thing you guys need in your closet is the same type of system as is in Janes closet! I feel like hangers would be game changer for keeping it organized! Also BINS!! We keep bins at the top of our closet with seasonal clothes - mainly like tank tops, or pants I'm not wearing during summer, or swim stuff, etc. I find bins to be the answer to so many problems LOL!

We're also big fans of IKEA, and I feel like a cube storage would be really beneficial if you took a couple of shelves out of the bottom and put a cube storage - then it's HIDDEN mess lol!!

    1. Aww yes!!! Ok thank you so much for all of this!!! After yesterday, I am truly inspired to grab some bins, and I was thinking the top would be a perfect place to keep some of those seasonal clothes. That would honestly be a real game changer I'm sure! We have a small hanging closet on the side, but this has inspired me to maybe rearrange a little in there. Thanks, Alisha!! You always have the best ideas!

  2. I rely a lot on bins and baskets to keep seasonal items looking neat and organized. Then I pop a little homemade label on them so I know what's inside.
